Artists of Color Alliance

December 2016 – July 2017, ongoing | Kansas City, MO

In 2016, I founded the Artists of Color Alliance, a Kansas City meet-up group I began for self-identifying creatives of color. I launched the group with a small leadership team composed of Kansas City artists of color. Through shared responsibility and resource sharing, the leadership team hosted different events, from private meet-up to public art making events.

During my tenure, I organized the first two meet-ups to identify what events resources artists wanted, a reading club meet-up, and a public panel discussion about diversity in arts and culture institutions. The group still continues and maintains an active facebook group.

JULY 2017 — The Artists of Color Alliance (KC) presents "The D-word: Access and Tokenism," a discussion addressing the complexities around access, tokenism, and diversity in arts and culture institutions. The event will begin with a panel discussion moderated by Lynnette Miranda, featuring Kansas City professionals who will share their professional experience and personal insight on institutional practices around diversity initiatives, as well as recommend practical, next steps. Immediately following, the audience will break-out into smaller, facilitated groups where they can exchange ideas and questions relating to the panel while learning from one another.
